La Mirande hotel
/ Avignon / France
This period townhouse was built on the remains of a medieval cardinals palace, and features superb 18th century interiors with antique furniture and old master paintings. Almost all bedrooms have a romantic view on a quiet cobbled square or the lavish garden with the Popes Palace in the background. Until 1990 when it was turned into a hotel, it was house to one of the leading families of Avignon, one of whose members was the mayor of the city in the second half of the 19th century and an intimate friend of the emperor Napoleon III.
The gourmet restaurant offers a terrace and garden for open-air dining in the summer. Its open fireplaces add to the ambiance in the winter. The old period kitchen of our famous cooking school is also the venue of our original guest table where a fixed menu is prepared in front of up to 12 guests sharing the same table.
Le Marmiton cooking school offers classes with many of the most interesting chefs of Provence. Classes are organized weekly with five different chefs. The venue is a beautiful 19th-century kitchen with its original counters and wood-fired oven. Le Marmiton also offers courses on wine and cheese.
